We’re a long way from grass stains We’re a long way from novelty From sweat on my palms To blood in my cheeks From some little thing you said to me We’re a long way from grass stains Please don’t let the things I love become expectations Please don’t let the things I love become clutter to throw away Please don’t let that familiar feeling fuck this up Please don’t let that familiar feeling fuck this up We’re a long way from grass stains We’re a long way from novelty From the Sonic parking lot Where you said that we should talk We’re a long way from grass stains Please don’t let the things I love become expectations Please don’t let the things I love become clutter to throw away Please don’t let that familiar feeling fuck this up Please don’t let that familiar feeling fuck this up

about

Glamper opens Happy, their second full-length album, like a car chase in a garage-rock fever dream. “Back Chewer” comes out swinging—riffs sharper than a broken bottle and drums that sound like they’re trying to escape the studio. It’s the perfect sophomore effort from a band that’s spent over a decade hammering out their sound in Nashville’s dim-lit bars and infamously crowded house shows. Happy feels like the product of years spent perfecting their craft, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that means Glamper proves they haven’t left the garage. If anything, they’ve transcended it, transforming the grease-stained concrete into a cathedral of distorted amps and bong-soaked epiphanies. Happy is music that suggests salvation not in quiet reflection, but in the primal scream of a chorus and the ecstatic crash of a cymbal. You don’t listen to Happy so much as you surrender to it, and when you do, it’ll take you somewhere holy.

Consider the standout drums from Zach Hurst, especially present on “Churn” It’s a track that starts slow and foggy, with mystic vocals that summon something dark and brooding. The spell builds into a cacophony of high hats and kick drums and becomes almost primal. It sounds like your heartbeat just before doing something dangerous. It’s fast, it’s calamitous, it’s driving. It’s a rhythm that will spirit you away and steal your wallet, and it’s a flavor you can expect to taste on every one of Happy’s tracks.

The dual vocal attack of Keith Herndon and Cory Taylor Cox is the band’s secret weapon, and nowhere does it shine brighter than on “Young & Broke.” The song is less an anthem of joy and more a rallying cry for the disenchanted—a defiant middle finger to the idea that life needs to be neat or polished. Herndon’s melodic crooning collides with Cox's increasingly frayed delivery, creating a tension that feels like holding a lit firecracker in your hand just a second too long. This album isn’t about sanitized happiness—it’s about finding solace in the chaos. Smoking in the garage. Cracking a beer. Laughing because, honestly, what else can you do?

The follow-up songs, “Mailbox” and “Gotta Get You Home”, are, simply, a lot of fun. The former with a chorus that demands audience participation and the latter with vocals from Herndon that feel at home somewhere between The Hives and The Ramones.

Happy isn’t just an album; it’s an invitation. A house party you can hear three blocks away. A garage crammed with amps, bodies, and more than one holy ghost. It’s loud, messy, and unapologetically alive. Glamper isn’t here to reinvent the wheel; they’re here to roll it straight down the hill and see what happens. So, clean out your bong, clear out your calendar, and let Happy remind you why garage rock will never die.
